Congratulations, you've seen my fingers. |
Wow, it's been a while since I posted anything on here! But that doesn't mean I game less and less. In fact, I've been checking out a lot of games and revisiting some old ones for the past couple of months. The thing is that, I haven't had the spirit to write anything on gaming. Maybe the games are too interesting, maybe they're too boring. The thing is, I hadn't
felt the need to pour my thoughts on those games down into words. And like I said before, I didn't start this site for blogging, it's
for posting stuff that I write. That's different than blogging. For bloggers, they need to come up with something to post on a regular basis. For me, I merely need some sort of a place/site to post what I've written, but I will always write whether the place/site exists or not. Now enough with that, on to it we go!
And by the way, I've been having this weird attention problem lately. It's like my mind is blank at times, then the next minute it's full of stuff to process. My grades declined, I couldn't focus, blahblahblah. But it (you know, the mind, that cunning little shit) seems to enjoy thinking about fucked-up stuff; like for instance I've had some really tough times reading anything without over-analyzing what I read. And because of that not only my grades suffer, my social life too. And because I'm basically a boring piece of shit, my friends lost their interest in me and left me be to deal with that new mind-fucked-up-ness that I just discovered myself. Ooooh so sad, okay now let's get on to it, here are what I've been doing so far:
Officially played almost all of Telltale's episodic games (so far)
|
Feels and blood, everywhere! |
The guys at Telltale are masters of episodic games. The first Telltale game I played was The Walking Dead Season 1, arguably their best game to date. That was in 2013 -
I think - when I played the first episode. It was an incredible gaming experience, something I had not experienced for quite a while at the time. As of now, I've already finished both seasons of the Walking Dead, and I must admit that the second season felt less sensational than the first. That said, it's far from being bad on its own. Another Telltale's game, the Wolf Among Us is also terrific and very memorable (ahh that art-style that emphasizes on neon lights!). The game is based on the
Fables comic book series, which is sort of like a spin-off of various fairy tales being brought together into one universe. You play as Bigby Wolf as he tries to solve crimes and puzzles. It really is not that simple, the story's complicated yet immersive at the same time. I also played Tales from the Borderlands, which is the funnier of Telltale's games. Obviously, I'm a big fan of the Borderlands series, but fan or not I'd still say the game is wonderful on its own rights.
Re-read some unfinished reviews from the last two years
|
It's not over-hyped, really. |
Back in 2014 and 2015, I played a number of very interesting games that I'd love to write reviews for. In fact, I
did start writing reviews on some of them, but most of the reviews are only partially completed as of now. Lately I re-read them and found out
that there's this funny thing about writing reviews: sometimes games are just too immersive and interesting that you just don't have the time to sit down and write about them because you're so into them, yet ironically you keep talking about them in your head as you play. Other times, you find it hard to describe how great they are in words, or even how they
suck. I often find myself in that situation. And because I'm not technically a blogger, I
rarely feel like I need to force myself to complete them because obviously I'm
not looking to posting anything on schedule, but the ugly thing is, in the end I normally would end up abandoning those partially-complete reviews. Right now I'm really hoping to finish at least a couple of those partially complete work, especially my review on Shadowrun Dragonfall, which is one of the best turn-based tactics of recent memory.
Tried The Last of Us at a friend's house
|
There's all the reason you need to get a PS3. |
Recently during the semester break, a former schoolmate invited a bunch of us to gather around at his place. He has a PS3 and as I played around with the controller, I was invited to try out the Last of Us. So I fucking did. I felt royal to be honest. Hey why not because HOLY JESUS SON OF MARY AND JOSEPH AND GOD IT'S THE LAST OF US, ONE OF THE CONSOLE-EXCLUSIVE GAMES THAT I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO PLAY! I tried to keep an open-mind as I played but I had to admit, it was
really looking to be an awesome game. Unfortunately I only played for 15 minutes before we all parted ways. Maybe I shouldn't have spent my money on that Telecaster last year, maybe I
should have bought a PS3 instead. But getting a PS3 for just one game seems like a bit of a loss in investment, but then again it's
not just any game,
it's the Last of Us. Goddd I wish I were filthy rich...
Still haven't finished Dragon Age Origins
|
How could you! We had fun, then you left me hanging! |
I've been playing Dragon Age Origins since 2011. I haven't finished it yet.
Seriously. It's not that the game is bad, actually it's the complete opposite:
Dragon Age: Origins is definitely one of my favorite role-playing games of all time. But that's the problem,
it's just too damn interesting. I'd play that game for hours and days and weeks. Even if there were new games to play, I'd hardly take my time off of Origins. But because there were just too many interesting games to play in recent years, plus college and work and all that, Dragon Age Origins succumbed from time to time. But it was never entirely defeated, it merely lost battles. After some considerably long hiatuses, I would always get back to its beautiful land of Ferelden, and everytime I do, I have to create a new character. Partly because I lose track of my previous saves, partly because it opens up to new narratives, paths and directions. Some of my characters are probably 2-3 years old! Recently, I started with a new character: a dwarf, only this time it's a snobby one.
Replayed Call of Duty: World at War & World in Conflict
|
*in made-up russian accent* "It's good to see you again too, comrade Reznov!" |
And the most important thing that I did as of late is replaying Call of Duty: World at War, and World in Conflict. These two games have a special place in my heart. I went to buy CoD: WaW with my dad at a gamestore back in 2009. Although it was nothing significant to my dad other than a gamestore visit, it was to me, because I love my dad, and buying games with him is definitely something to remember. Not only that, CoD: WaW is actually quite a decent CoD game. As a matter of fact, saying that it's decent is a
colossal understatement when it's one of the best in the series. As for World in Conflict, it's a very engaging 2007 real-time strategy. It's one of those extremely good games that don't get the attention that they deserve and hence, have no sequels. If you're a fan of strategy, you have got to try it, and if possible, get the one with the Soviet Assault expansion pack!
