This is the second entry of a four-part series I'm doing this month where I try out the demos of four very recent or upcoming turn-based tactics titles.
I'm enjoying this demo a lot, it's definitely up my alley as a huge longtime fan of Darkest Dungeon and turn-based tactics. This game is reverse Iratus: Lord of the Death, which is the reverse of Darkest Dungeon. Obviously this is just a demo, but if this is what the full game will be like, I can't really recommend it for now, mainly for the very THIN tactical layer (not sure if that's the right term but that's the best I can think of). Do I enjoy it though? Yes.
There's enough variety of enemies with different skills. However, the battles end way too quickly. The heroes usually strike first, and will usually one-hit one of your goons before they even have the chance to do anything. Therefore, you don't enough time to get to know your goons and develop strategies, let alone develop party compositions that you know well. I also don't get the mechanic in which each room only allow certain pools of enemies. I don't understand how this mechanic actually works, it certainly needs some explanation.
The strategic gameplay is fine, I love the simplicity. Every week you get a chance to do one thing, whether it's training your goons or send them to missions, or play out some random events. The interface could use some improvement (make it clearer which of your goon is taking the turn/action, for instance). Gameplay mechanics need explanations, such as Tears and Blood.
Keep the simplicity of the game, but at the same time find a way to make battles last a tad bit longer and feel less random. Am I going to buy the full game? Most likely, I'm a huge turn-based tactics and am rather forgiving (which isn't really a good thing). But I imagine a lot of people don't.
