Dark Souls 2 Coming to PC Next March

Here's another great news of a game coming to the PC, guys! This time, it's Dark Souls 2, as announced by From Software game director, Yui Tanimura. Yay! Some of you must have tried the PC port for the previous Dark Souls called the Prepare to Edition, and were probably disappointed by various technical issues the port was plagued with. Now, thanks to the sequel having a proper PC edition, we will have the chance to enjoy what our console friends did playing the previous Dark Souls game.

But don't get too excited now, because the PC edition of Dark Souls 2 will only launch until after the console versions. Don't get me the wrong way, I'm referring to the seventh generation consoles, which are the PS3 and Xbox 360. Tanimura said that only existing consoles and PC are confirmed, or in other words, the game is not having any launch for the PS4 or Xbox One editions. Nevertheless, dude did express that he was interested to work with the next generation consoles:
"I think it has to be decided for next generation consoles like Xbox One and PS4. My personal opinion as creator is that I'm really interested in next generation and I'm willing to make games for PS4 and Xbox One."
Anyway, Tanimura did not specifically announce the date of the PC launch, but it would probably be any day after the 11th of March, which will be release date for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game. The reason for the delay and the unspecified date, according to Tanimura, is that he wants to work on more options to make the PC version optimal and more customizable for players.

He explained, "With the first Dark Souls, the development team started work on the console version before the PC version, and because of that there were less options for the development team to make the PC version more optimal in terms of resolution and so on." Remember how much the previous Darks Souls (Prepare to Edition) sucked? Locked frame rate, poor graphics and hard-to-customize controls, to name a few.

Through a translator, Tanimura also admitted that the first game was done half-assed, "A lot of it was not very well done, sort of half-assed." So, in order to make up for that, he promised that now they will put more priority on the PC, "Last time, we started working on PC after console version was complete. This time, because we are considering the PC from the beginning, you can be sure there will be more care put into PC development."

So, what he's trying to say is that it's better to work on the console versions and the PC at the same time for the best result. Technical stuff, people. Tanimura assured that they will take a different approach on Dark Souls 2 development, "With Dark Souls 2, the team's working on console and PC at the same time, so there shouldn't be an issue with how optimal it will be on day one." It's kind of rare for Japanese developers to express their concern on the PC (take Capcom for example). But that is what Tanimura did, so give him a cheer, everyone.

Also, want to hear somethin' extra? As an effort to promote the upcoming Dark Souls 2, Gamespot has reported that publisher Namco Bandai and developer From Software have formed a partnership with a pair of British graphic novelists, Rob Williams and Andi Ewington, to work on a graphic novel entitled Dark Souls II: Into the Light, which is set in the game's universe. It will probably help interested players to find out more about the background story of the game, as Namco Bandai said that the novel will offer an extended experience to hardcore fans and newcomers. It will be published January next year.
